Pelicans

One of the best things about living on the coast is the water birds. Pelicans are my favorite. They travel in large flocks, especially when it's cold and windy outside.

Usually, I get nice pictures of their underbellies, but today, I got a really good shot of one.

I love their faces. My goal is to capture one with the pouch full of food. This group was captured during one of our infrequent sunny days.

  1. Great pictures! Do they follow the waves looking for food? In Costa Rica there were seabirds doing that and I'm pretty sure they were pelicans, although I never got close enough to see definitively.

That last picture in particular looks professional!

  3. Thanks Mary! When I see them near my house they're never getting food. But out near the marina I've seen them swooping into the water.

I really like the patch of white near their eyes. It looks like the skin on a macaw.
